Julie Small SBA
Julie trained as a teacher in Biology and Physical Education and followed a teaching career until she revived her interest in art, which along with an interest in the environment provides the inspiration for her subjects. Initially working in watercolour Julie now works in graphite pencil a media she has always enjoyed and hopes others may be inspired to explore this medium.
Her work has been widely exhibited at various venues in the UK and some are also held in a number of private collections : The Shirley Sherwood Collection of Botanical Art, The Royal Horticultural Society (Lindley Library),The National Museum and Gallery of Wales and The Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation (USA).
As a member of the Society of Botanical Artists(SBA) Julie exhibits regularly with them receiving a number of awards for her work. She has also been awarded a Gold medal by the Royal Horticultural Society for a series of pencil drawings. Her work has also been used to help illustrate a number of books on botanical art.
Julie now tutors in Derbyshire and Lancashire.
